Playing Chess Does Not Need To Be So Serious

Hobbies Articles | November 20, 2009

Many people see chess as a very complicated game. From the different styles of chess boards to the different chess pieces, it might seem complicated at first. Many people even approach this game with fear because of its strict rules.

Chess is by many considered to be one of the most complicated games ever made. From the different styles of chess boards to the different chess pieces, it might seem complicated at first. This game is very intimidating to a lot of people because of the rules, the concept of protecting the king, chess pieces getting eaten and winning it altogether.

Never feel intimidated by chess! Chess is fun, especially for those who like mind games. However, there are many people who dont appreciate the game because they feel overwhelmed with the set of rules and required strategies. Why dont you organize a chess party in your own home so that more family and friends can enjoy chess.

Nobles from the old times played chess in social situations and parties. For a real gentleman, being able to play chess was even an obligation. During the past centuries chess pieces and chess boards went only through a minor change. Nowadays, chess is taken more seriously and does not belong to the fun part of peoples social scene.

Chess is no longer equated to fun, but something thats brain training. Nowadays, when people look for fun, they dont want to think. There are not many people who can connect thinking and having fun together, simply because thinking is much too serious and, therefore, too much thinking can lead a person to a feeling of boredom.

This is a big fallacy because chess does not have to be all that serious. Winning is just part of the fun in playing chess, the other half being the entire process of analyzing the game that you played. Analyzing things and making up strategies to win the game doesnt have to be a big difficult task, although there are some people who have great difficulty in doing this. Another problem when it comes to chess is the lack of patience in people. All these negative sides of chess can be overcome if you and your chess party find chess to be more relaxed and fun.

While having a chess party make it clear for your friends that winning isnt the only thing that matters. The party should be a time where your friends can concentrate on the process of playing, as well as giving and receiving constructive criticism. Enthusiasts will gain more knowledge on the moves while those who fear chess will see how nice and fun playing chess can be.

Encourage open communication when it comes to noticing mistakes and understanding them as well as improving your strategy. To make your chess event more fun you could decorate the premises with some chess motifs. Have enough chessboards available so that people can play without having to wait their turn. Encourage your friends to bring their own chess boards. Try to keep the party light by letting people be who they are. They may play like enemies, but hopefully they will provide positive friendly critiques so that everyone can enjoy the game and also grow as players.
